Now, on to the updates for our in class activities...
First Grade: In the last couple weeks, we began a unit on the 7 days of Creation. For this unit, students watched a short video on the creation story, then we outlined what God created on each of the seven days. Our next step was to begin creating pictures to illustrate each day using Tux paint. This program helps the students to work on their hand-eye coordination and using the mouse. Once they complete a picture, we insert it into a PowerPoint slide which they then label. Most students finished their eight page book illustrating each of the 7 days of creation. A few friends will finish up this week. We have also begun to learn how to keyboard using the correct fingers. We are using typing web for our practice and instruction. Students are welcome to practice using this online program at home, as well as in class. For the rest of the month, we will be working on some special Christmas projects.
Second Grade: The last 2 week our second graders created recipe books for Thanksgiving using Google Slides. I really enjoyed reading their recipes! We are also using typing web for our typing practice and instruction. Students are welcome to practice using this online program at home, as well as in class. This week, we began working on a new unit about Technology and how it has changed over time. Next week, students will be creating their own invented technology and describing their invention.
Third Grade, Fourth and Fifth Grade: We continue to work on our digital passport project. This week we learned about creative content and citing our sources correctly. The students played a game called Mix and Mash and worked on learning to give credit to the people who take pictures, record music and provide information online instead of a violating copyright laws. Please feel free to ask them to tell you the difference between the two. We will be finishing up our digital passport projects this week with finishing our mission books. Have a great weekend!
