Computer Class Update: Week 28

This was another busy week.  We some beautiful days this week, but it looks like winter is trying to return for a few days.

Now for your update:  Here is what we have been up to and what we are going to be doing the week of May13...

First Grade
Project #9:  Staying Safe Online
The first graders began talking about our website traffic light:  Green means good.  It is a great site for kids your age to visit.  Yellow means caution.  A site you are not sure is right for you.  Red means Stop.  A site that is not right for you.  Students worked on a Website Traffic Light worksheet and colored in their traffic lights for each statement.  Next week, we will finish staying safe online and review Tumblebooks from the Portage District Library.

Online practice:  http://www.scootpad.com/
When students finish their assignments, I continue to have them work on scootpad.com to practice their reading and math skills.  This is a great website, you are welcome to work on it at home.

Second Grade
Project #8:  Google Earth
The second graders continued working on their Google Earth Moon Journal on Google Docs.  We tried to comment on each others journals.  Some people's comments worked, others did not.  Next week, students will finish writing their moon stories and comment on their partners journal entries and stories.

Third Grade
Project #7:  Fractured Fairy Tales
The third graders were in Lansing this week on a field trip.  Next week, students will review a Fractured Fairy Tale.  We will also read and try fracturing a fairy tale.  Below is an example of a Fractured Fairy Tale:

Fourth Grade
Project#6:  Taking Care of God's World - Pollution:  Cause and Effect
The fourth graders began a new project were they will research  cause and effect of various types of pollution and write a research document explaining their findings.  The topic students were able to choose between five topics:  Water Pollution, Air Pollution, Trash, Land Pollution and Chemical Dumping.  The websites below are the ones we started to use:

Next week, students will continue researching their pollution topic and begin writing their report in Google Docs.

Fifth Grade
Project #7:  Our United States
The fifth graders were at Regional Lutheran Schools Field Day this week.  Next week, we will review formulas for MS Excel, and learn how to sort information.

Typing:  Second-Fifth
We are also working on out typing skills.  I am stressing to the students the importance of using the correct fingers while typing.  This has been a bit of a challenge for several students.  If they have a chance, they may practice at home.
Please check out the Typing Practice Tab online resources  you can use to practice their typing at home as well.

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Mother's Day!
