Computer Class Update: Week 27

This was another busy week.  I think we skipped Spring and went right to Summer.  I can't complain, at least it wasn't raining everyday!

Now for your update:  Here is what we have been up to and what we are going to be doing the week of May 6...

First Grade
Project #8:  Six page story book like Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
The first graders finished and printed their six page story in MS Word similar to  Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?  The stories turned out great!  Next week, wen will begin Staying Safe Online.

Online practice:  http://www.scootpad.com/
When students finish their assignments, I continue to have them work on scootpad.com to practice their reading and math skills.  This is a great website, you are welcome to work on it at home.

Second Grade
Project #8:  Google Earth
The second graders continued working on their Google Earth Moon Journal on Google Docs.  Students reviewed what they had learned so far and began writing their Moon stories using the information they wrote in their journals and moon books.  Next week, students will continue working on their rough drafts and learn how to comment on a partner's journal entries and stories.

Third Grade
Project #7:  Fractured Fairy Tales
The third graders finished and printed their Computer Component Brochures.  Their brochures turned out really nice!  We began a new project yesterday introducing the students to Fractured Fairy Tales.  Next week, students will use fairy tales and rewrite them twisting 1-2 elements to create a story.  Below is an example of a Fractured Fairy Tale:

Fourth Grade
Project #5:  State Symbols
The fourth graders finished inputting their information about their state(s) into the following website:

https://sites.google.com/a/portageps.org/our-50-states/home

The two websites that the students have been using are:

http://www.50states.com/
http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/

The students did a great job with their state(s) research!  Next week, students will begin a new project researching the cause and effect of various types of pollution and write a research document explaining their findings.

Fifth Grade
Project #7:  Our United States
The fifth graders reviewed how spreadsheets and formulas work in MS Excel.  Next week, students will receive a Formula & Review Sheet.  We will also learn to do some sorting, which will assist us with our project.

Typing:  Second -Fifth
We are also working on our typing skills.  I am stressing to the students the importance of using the correct fingers while typing.  This has been a bit of a challenge for some students.  If they have a chance, they may practice at home.
Please check out the Typing Practice Tab for online resources you can use to practice their typing  at home as well.

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Have a wonderful sunny weekend!

Happy Cinco de Mayo on Sunday!
