I hope all of you had a good week. This was another busy week . Wednesdays May 1st is May day.
Now for your update: here is what we have been up to and what we are going to be doing the week of April 29...
First Grade
Project #8: Six page story book like Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?
The first graders continued writing their six page story in MS Word similar to Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you See? We worked on creating our last few pages and reviewed how to add clip art to our story. Next week, we will print and share our books with the class.
Online practice: http://www.scootpad.com/
When students finish their assignments, I continue to have them work on scootpad.com to practice their reading and math skills. This is a great website, you are welcome to work on it at home.
Second Grade
Project #8: Google Earth
The second graders continued working on their Google Earth Moon Journal on Google Docs. I read the story If you Decide to go to the Moon by Faith McNulty. We learned about items that we may need to have on a rocket and the moon, such as a space suit and food. We also learned that we would have to travel 240,000 miles and two and a half days to get to the moon. We took this information and added another journal entry to use for our story. Next week, we will begin a rough draft of our moon stories.
Third Grade
Project #6: Computer Components Brochure
The third graders continued working on their Computer Components Brochures in MS Publisher. Several of the students were able to print their brochures this week and they arr looking great! The students needed to include: the definition of Input, Output, and Storage Devices, a title page, and clip art of the devices. We reviewed how to cut and paste clip art and pictures into the brochure and how to save do their student drives. Next week, we are going to finish our brochures and start working on Fractured Fairy Tales.
Fourth Graders
Project #5: State Symbols
The fourth graders continued working on researching their state(s) and inputting their information into the following website:
https://sites.google.com/a/portageps.org/our-50-states/
The two websites that the students have been using are:
http://www.50states.com/
http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/
Here are the items that the students were researching: state tree, bird, song, flower, animal, and nickname. Next week students will finish researching their states and adding the information to the Google Site above. We will also try and start a cause and effect research document about pollution in our world.
Fifth Graders
Project #7: Our United States
The fifth graders reviewed how the spreadsheets work and a few of the formulas. The students completed the Excel Error Exercise. Next week, students and I will work on a Formula and Function review sheet.
Typing: Second - Fifth
We are also working on our typing skills. I am stressing to the students the importance of using the correct fingers while typing. This has been a bit of a challenge for some of the students. If they have a chance, they may practice at home.
Please check out the Typing Practice Tab for online resources you can use to practice their typing at home as well.
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Have a good weekend.
Happy May Day!
